Our week in Vienna
On Sunday morning, January 24th, we met at the train station in Dornbirn at 6:40. The train took us from Dornbirn to Linz. There a bus waited for us and brought us to Mauthausen. The weather was rather unpleasant. One of the most impressive things were all the names of the victims who died there written on stone. When we arrived in Vienna we took the underground to our youth hostel.
On Monday morning we went to see the “Haus des Meeres.” There we could see lots of different fish, snakes, birds, apes and reptiles.
In the afternoon we went to “Madame Tussauds” in the “Prater.” It is very interesting because of its many wax figures of famous people. Although some of us were already tired we walked to the “Apollo-cinema” to watch a movie in the evening.
The following day we met Andreas Weiss at “Schloss Schönbrunn” at half past eight. Andreas was our tour guide and showed us some historic rooms. He can tell many interesting things about such a place. In the afternoon we did a bus tour along the “Ringstraße.” Most of us found it quite boring and some even fell asleep. After dinner we took the underground to “Stephansplatz” and went to see “Time Travel.” It’s all about the history of Vienna of the last two thousand years.
On Wednesday morning we had an appointment at MUMOK (museum of modern art). First we were divided into two groups. Then each of us had to carry out a small task. After lunch, we visited the “Karlskirche.” Andreas knows lots of historical things about this cathedral which was built in the eighteenth century.
The next day in the afternoon we went to the “Stephansdom” in the first district. Of course, standing inside the cathedral is quite impressive.
On Thursday evening we went to the “Raimund Theater” in order to see the Musical “Mozart.” The whole performance was quite amazing.
The following morning we had to clean our rooms and got ready for our train ride back home.
